Interlibrary Loans provide access to books or microfilm that are not available from the Huntington Beach Public Library. Before requesting material, check the library's catalog to be sure that the material is currently not owned by the library.

Service is available for members with a valid Huntington Beach Public Library card.
How do I request material?
After you have determined that Huntington Beach Public Library does not own the material, Interlibrary Loans should be made in person and payment will be required at the time of request.
What will it cost?
Interlibrary Loan service costs $6.00 per item. Fees are nonrefundable. Some microfilm requests my require more than one roll to fill a request. The initial charge of $6 will be charged but patrons will be contacted if the loaning institution requires an additional payment. Our Interlibrary Loan staff makes the best attempt to fulfill requests; however, sometimes it is not possible and the prepaid fees will remain nonrefundable.
How long can I keep an item?
Most Interlibrary Loan items check out for 3 weeks and most lending institutions do not allow renewals on requested materials.
How long will I have to wait for an item?
The normal process of an Interlibrary Loan request is approximately two to six weeks. Library staff will call you when the item is available.
What happens if I lose or damage a book?
The lending institution will request that you pay for the loss or damage and may also charge processing fees.
Where do I pick up and return materials?
Interlibrary Loan material may be picked up and returned at the Central Library Circulation Desk. Please do not put them in the library's book drops.
