Northwest HB Residents: As you know, the City filed a Temporary Use Permit (#16-003) to utilize a portion of the former Navy railroad right-of-way between Springdale Street and Rancho Road for new vehicle storage based on immediate needs of our Huntington Beach auto dealers. Those plans called for two rows of parking along the industrial side of the right-of-way as a means to preserve both the ability for nearby residents to walk along the trail and to maintain at least a 35 foot buffer between parked cars and the residences. The intent of the interim use was to provide this critical storage option to our dealers, thus assisting with their ability to generate sales tax, in addition to cleaning up and securing the site and generating some revenue until such time that the City is able to fund a recreational trail utilizing the entire right-of-way.
At the Zoning Administrator meeting held on April 5, many of your neighbors turned out to voice concern and ask questions about the proposal. We greatly appreciate the public comment and participation and are pleased to share with you that the City Manager has requested Staff to withdraw the Temporary Use Permit application. The former Navy right-of-way will not be used for this storage. Public Works crews will be securing the site over the next several months with bollards and fencing to help reduce prohibited use that has generated complaints over the last year of the City’s ownership of this parcel. Nearby residents will also receive a letter informing them of this decision. Thank you for voicing your opinion and participating in the public hearing process.
