October Mayor's Award - Division Fire Chief Eric Engberg
Eric’s selection was based on his numerous accomplishments, leadership traits, and for his distinguished years of service to the City of Huntington Beach.
He consistently demonstrates an allegiance to the Fire Department, its employees and the community.
Eric began his fire service career with the HBFD more than 31 years ago as a reserve firefighter. Throughout his career, Eric has served as a firefighter, paramedic, engineer, captain, battalion chief and was promoted to Division Chief in 2004. He currently oversees the operations division and supervises over 150 employees. He has served as the Acting Fire Chief on two separate occasions. He is a shining example of someone who has truly devoted his career to serving our community.
Eric continually demonstrates professionalism and dedication to the highest standards of the HBFD. He is a role model not only in the department, but in the fire service community across the region.
His commitment to excellence is second to none, and all of his work is performed in a methodical, compassionate, and humble manner. He pays particular attention and focus on the well being of our employees and the community we serve.
Eric has been characterized by his peers and subordinates as a competent and dependable leader, who possesses only positive qualities, and leads with wisdom, selflessness, fairness and integrity.
